About me

Demelza Honeyborne-Founder

My name is Demelza Honeyborne, and I am the Founder and Executive Director of Rebecca Blamo's Mental Health Awareness and Well-being C.I.C. I have a bachelor's degree in Psychology and a master's degree in Health and Clinical Psychology, and I am currently training to become a Humanistic Integrative therapist. I am a qualified mental health first aider with MHFAider England, a trauma-informed care facilitator, and a mental health advocate. Additionally, I co-facilitate as a Lived Experience Practitioner with Surrey and Borders Partnership N.H.S. Foundation Trust. Throughout my life, I have been fascinated by the workings of the human mind and how we respond to different situations. Having grown up in Liberia, West Africa, during the civil war, I have seen firsthand the effects of conflict on mental health. Despite the horrors I witnessed, I remain intrigued by the multifaceted nature of human beings and the ways in which personal circumstances can shape individuals. As a survivor of the war, I understand how important it is to have access to mental health resources. Seeking counselling helped me to live a fulfilling life despite my experiences and my ongoing struggle with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I believe that everyone should have equal access to the tools they need to thrive, which is why I am dedicated to raising awareness about mental health issues and eliminating stigmas. Finally, I must mention that my organization is named after my mother, Rebecca Blamo, who tragically lost her life during the Liberian civil war.
